Frequently asked questions
The questions patients ask most often, answered directly.
Do I need a referral to see the urologist?
No. You can contact the hospital directly for an appointment. If you were referred by another doctor, please bring the referral letter and any reports with you.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or send a WhatsApp message to +91 78630 44049 with your name and a brief description of the problem. Our team will reply with a suitable date and time. Please note that sending a request is not itself a confirmed appointment — wait for the confirmation before travelling.
What are the OPD timings?
Monday – Saturday: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm & 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Sunday: by appointment only. Admitted patients are attended to round the clock.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
All previous reports in date order, ultrasound or CT films with their reports, a complete list of the medicines you take, discharge summaries from any earlier surgery, and photo identity. If you take blood thinners, mention this at the start.
Will my kidney stone need surgery?
Not necessarily. Some small stones pass without a procedure, with pain relief and other treatment where appropriate. Removal may be needed if a stone is unlikely to pass, causes persistent obstruction or pain, or affects kidney function. An infected, blocked kidney needs emergency treatment, usually drainage and antibiotics first, with stone removal after the infection clears. The decision depends on scans, urine and blood tests, and your overall condition.
Is kidney stone surgery done by cutting open the abdomen?
Very rarely today. Most stones are treated endoscopically — RIRS, in which a flexible scope and laser reach the kidney through the natural urinary passage with no incision at all, or PCNL, which uses a track about a centimetre wide through the back for large stones.
Does an enlarged prostate always mean cancer?
No. Benign prostate enlargement is not cancer, although a person can have both conditions. Symptoms, examination and selected tests help guide assessment. PSA can rise with enlargement, inflammation or cancer and cannot distinguish them reliably on its own. If needed, your doctor will discuss further tests.
Will prostate surgery affect my sexual function?
Effects depend on the procedure and your health. Endoscopic prostate surgery commonly changes ejaculation; semen may pass into the bladder instead of coming out, which can affect fertility. Erectile problems can also occur after some prostate procedures. Ask your urologist about the specific risks, alternatives and expected effects before deciding.
Are andrology consultations private?
Yes. Consultations about erectile difficulty, ejaculation, fertility or any male health concern are conducted privately and confidentially, without moralising and without embarrassment. These are ordinary medical problems and are treated as such.
My semen analysis report is abnormal. What does that mean?
A single abnormal semen analysis does not by itself establish infertility — results vary considerably between samples, which is why the test is usually repeated after a suitable interval. An abnormal result is a reason for a proper assessment of hormones, examination for varicocele and a review of general health, all of which can identify treatable causes.
Can women consult here?
Yes. Urology is not a men-only specialty. Women are seen for urinary infections, kidney and bladder stones, urinary leakage and incontinence, and blood in the urine.
Do you treat children?
Children are assessed for common urological problems, and referred onward to a paediatric urology centre where a condition needs specialist paediatric surgical care. You will be told clearly which applies.
What will treatment cost?
Cost depends on the procedure, the anaesthesia, the length of stay and any implants such as a stent. You can ask for a written estimate before admission, and we would encourage you to. Please ask the hospital directly for current charges and about insurance and cashless arrangements.
Do you accept health insurance?
Please contact the hospital to check whether your particular policy or scheme is accepted, and what documentation is needed. Confirm this before admission rather than at discharge.
Is this an emergency hospital?
No. The phone and WhatsApp number are appointment lines and are not monitored around the clock. For an emergency — complete inability to pass urine, sudden severe testicular pain, heavy bleeding, or high fever with severe urinary symptoms — go directly to the nearest emergency department.
Where exactly is the hospital?
101, La Citadel Complex, near the CNG pump at Kangaroo Circle, on Puna Kumbhariya Road in Parvat Patiya, Surat 395010. It is convenient from Punagam, Limbayat, Godadara, Dindoli and Udhna.
