Bring the important information
- Bring earlier scans, reports, discharge summaries and urine cultures. List your symptoms, when they began, previous operations and questions. A bladder diary can help when frequency, night waking or leakage is a problem.
- Bring an accurate medicines list, including doses, blood thinners, diabetes medicines, vitamins and herbal products. Tell the team about allergies, other illnesses, possible pregnancy and any previous anaesthetic problems.
Get your own preparation instructions
- Confirm the procedure, arrival time and any requested tests. Ask whether you need a urine sample or a full bladder; do not assume every appointment has the same requirements.
- Follow the hospital's specific eating, drinking and medicine plan. Do not fast or stop medicines simply because a procedure is planned. If instructions are missing or unclear, contact the team before changing anything.
Plan the practical details
- Ask about the benefits, risks, alternatives, anaesthesia and expected recovery before giving consent. Tell the team your preferred language and request help understanding any unfamiliar terms.
- Arrange transport and support at home if advised, especially after sedation or anaesthesia. Confirm who to contact, how results will arrive, and when follow-up or tube removal is due.
